Children - Part Two

From 9/3/08

A follow - up to this post.

OK. I knew that that one bible verse was gonna get to somebody. I never imagined so many. It's the truth of the Word of God. But just to help you out, here's some clarification.

This is the verse I quoted:

Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Proverbs 23:13

This is the verse that follows it:

Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. Proverbs 23:14

Keeping my child from hell (if God put it that way, so can I) sounds important enough for me. Some don't use the word beat, they call it a whoopin', or a spanking. It's all the same truth of scripture. The word 'beat' has been, well, beaten. Here is the truth of the matter.

What we refer to is this meaning from Webster's:

1. To strike repeatedly; to lay on repeated blows, with a stick, with the hand or fist, or with any instrument, and for any cause, just or unjust, or for punishment.

We are NOT referring to this Webster's definition:

3. To break, bruise, comminute, or pulverize by beating or pounding, as pepper or spices.

Obviously, there is quite a difference.

In the original Hebrew text, its literal meaning is as follows:

A primitive root; to strike (lightly or severely, literally or figuratively): - beat

The Hebrew definitions go further, but as I should have mentioned in the previous post; I don't think everyone can handle them. I was actually reluctant to post the one scripture, but in the interest of the Truth of the Word of God, I did anyway. I am posting this follow-up to clarify the original. I won't do this all the time. I know this can be a sensitive subject, so I chose to address it in case there were others who were confused.

I thought it was important to post the follow-up that was originally posted in 2008, since it aroused so much confusion at that time.  Things haven't changed much since then anyway.  And the Word never changes, so...

Friday Fix

This Friday is Elijah's turn.

His Friday Fix is....

Elijah & Alex have been friends since they were in diapers.  He misses you a lot Alex.  You will always be his best friend.  He will be back in the States in August and September and even though it's the beginning of the school year, he really hopes to be able to see you while he's back.

This Friday, Elijah needs an Alex Fix.

Husbands Love Your Wives - Give Up Your Lives for Them

Unfortunately, a lot of men who boast the husband/submissive wife model are not worthy of being followed anyway.

First, this is a model for believing married couples, not unbelievers. The carnal man can not discern the things of the Spirit.  Second, it is a model of marriage that simply puts order into place. Third, while it is certainly no easy task to follow your husband 'no-matter-what', it is likewise not easy for him to be so in touch with Almighty God as to be completely certain that you and your family are following His will for your life.

Usually, however it is only the 'submissive wife' part that gets argued. But, the other part of that scripture states:

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Ephesians 5:25

Oh my! The husband is to love his wife so much that it is like giving up his life for her? I know I have done things for my marriage that seemed as though I was giving up a part of myself. Don't we all? We should. I would do it all over again.

And what about the third part of these admonitions? Should we rebuke this too?

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
Colossians 3:20

My wife is submitted to my authority in Christ. She is not oppressed, suppressed, silenced, enslaved or in any way demeaned because of it. She is a free woman because of our godly marriage. Ask her yourself.  And there is order in our marriage.

I know when it comes down to it, most godly women would follow their husbands' decisions even if sometimes they thought he was wrong - because they trust him and knows that he loves and wants only the best for her. Some women are more submitted than they think.  Go 100% ladies!  Order in your marriage is a wonderful thing.

Introducing "2e"

'2e' stands for 'Two Edges'. It will be our scripture of the 'day' entry. I decided not to call it a 'scripture of the day' because it won't be every day.  It will just be the scripture of the day it shows up. Get it?  I realize that some days we are too busy to post anything and I wanted to save myself from failure. Smart, huh? toot toot <-- My own horn.

Because every once in a while, you just need the Word of God.

So, our first '2e' comes from Hebrews 4:12.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

For All You Mission-minded Individuals

If you've ever been on the mission field, you can relate to this rap.  This kid really has some great insight.  The reverse culture shock always makes me feel so stupid when I get back.  This has already been posted here and here.  But I wanted to add it myself as well.

Our Favorite Holiday

Independence Day is our favorite holiday.  We will miss celebrating it in the States this year.  We are fireworksaholics and anyone who knows us knows that we are usually going to the fireworks at any given weekend in summer.  There's more than just fireworks on the 4th, ya know.

Anyway, we wanted to post this to honor the US of A which we dearly love and, uh, ...yeah, we miss it.

God Bless America!

Friday Fix

My Friday Fix this week is a food item again.  Actually, as our time of departure for the States gets closer, food is more on the mind - strange, really.  We like the food here - and it's way healthier than....

Fried Pierogies

I need a fix of fried pierogies in sauteed onions, topped with sour cream.  AAAHHHHH!

That's my Friday Fix.
