Wrestlemania 2012

And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
Genesis 32:24-28

There has been a lot of wrestling going on in the Sweeney household.  I'm not going to get into any detail except to say that the following has been concluded as a result of said wrestling: We're going home.  Even that statement is still being wrestled through, because it's unclear where 'home' really is.  We own a home in Pennsylvania and when we go back to the States, that is where we dwell.  We feel at home in Port-au-Prince because our daily lives are here, except for Perla, who is already back in the States.  Meanwhile our true home is not even in this world, so, there's that....

We are still wrestling through a lot of things.

Jacob was doing some wrestling.  He had just made a journey that was about to reunite him with his brother Esau.  He was carrying guilt and sin for stealing Esau's birthright.  You say, "Well Esau sold it." True.  But Jacob knew it was not his to buy!

I enter 2012 wrestling.  I'l be wrestling tonight and probably wrestling tomorrow.  From what I see, I'll be wrestling for a bit.  There are some things I need to work through.  There are some blessings that I need.  Most believers know the experience of wrestling with themselves.  We probably do that more than we should, or even need to.  But how many of us know, or are even willing to, wrestle with God?

There's
a
blessing
at
the
end

God changed Jacob's name.  There's a lot in a name.  In Jacob's time, it was representative of not only who you were but what you were.  When He changed Jacob's name, He changed his identity.  Is there something about your identity that you need, or would like changed?  If you say no, you're either lying or your name is Jesus.

Within your identity, do you need

more success
                 more holiness
                                  more favor
                                               more grace
                                                               more talent
                                                                              more intelligence
                                                                                                     more wisdom

Wrestle with God until He blesses you.  Let Him change your name in 2012.
