Man Up!

This one is for the men.  Ladies, while I'm sure you can get something from today's post, it's really for the men.  Please feel free to pass it along to the man you love - be it your father, your son, your husband or your pastor.
The families from the tribe of Levi were not counted with the other Israelites. The LORD had told Moses: "Don't count the men from the tribe of Levi or include them with the other Israelites. Tell the Levites that they are responsible for the Tent of the Agreement. They must take care of that tent and everything that is with it. They must carry the Holy Tent and everything in it. They must make their camp around it and take care of it.

Numbers 1:47-50 ERV

If you find this amusing, it's not.
You don't have to watch too much TV before you see him.  He may be in a commercial or two.  He's frequently in a sitcom.  Some sitcoms even focus around him as the main character.  Oh, he's so funny! Not.

He can be found in mystery movies.  You may even know him personally.  Some great Hollywood star?  Nope.  I'm talking about the loser.

The loser. The buffoon. The idiot. The moron. The emasculated male.

Personally, I'm tired of seeing him.  He has however infiltrated our society to the extent that men I know who are NOT him really see themselves as him, only because others see him that way.  It's the way we men are expected to be these days.  This is due mainly in part to how he is portrayed in the media.  Oh, the media.

I am not him.  I, like the Levite, am set apart.  I have a high calling.

Today's man has a destiny far above what the societal norms are calling for.  Believing men in particular, are called to be leaders; leaders in their families, leaders in ministry, leaders in the community.  Leaders, who lead.

Like the Levite, we are called to be men of God.  The task may not always be glorious, but the reward will be.  The Levites were given the assignment of cleaning the temple.  Doesn't sound too bad?  Well, basically they mopped up blood - all kinds of blood.

The Levites were born into their positions and groomed to serve.  They worked hard at their ministry and calling.  Today's man of God has many callings; husband, father, pastor, mentor, teacher, guide - the list goes on but nowhere does that list include moron or loser.  All of his callings are righteous.  He is to always put God in the first place and serve him with all of his heart.

If you find this over-spiritual, it's not.
Not every man's true calling will bring great glory.  There may be one who has a more high-profile job, or makes more money.  But you may be raising a national leader and need to be at home watching over him more closely instead of traveling with your company as the other man's job will require.

Do not give in or submit to the expectations of this world's crazy culture.  Instead focus on what God has planned for you and walk THAT vision out.

If we all live out what God would have us to look like, the world may start seeing men differently - the way God intended.

Thanks to ladies for carrying the ball all of the times they did, but now, it's time for the man of God to be exactly that.

Fridays With Francis Chan

Francis Chan is a great teacher in the Body of Christ.  We appreciate his simplicity and clarity.  Because of that appreciation, I'll be starting a mini-series featuring some videos by him.  Some will be short, some longer.  I hope they minister to you as much as they do me.  Enjoy "Fridays with Francis Chan".

This video is introducing his book "Erasing Hell"

"Prayers for Jer"

We know this young man; we have for years.  I wanted you to hear his story because it is increasingly amazing every day.  His family has a great heritage in the community and the Body.  Please visit the page and pray for his continued recovery, which so far, has been nothing but miraculous.

From the Facebook Page:

"On Sunday May 27, Jeremiah was in a terrible dirtbike accident that resulted in damage to the brain and bruised lungs. This group is to keep you updated on Jer's progress and to share prayer requests and praises. Join us on this journey of healing for our brother!"

You Know What We Really Need?

Moses and Aaron went into the Meeting Tent. They came out and blessed the people. Then the Glory of the LORD appeared to all the people. Fire came out from the LORD and burned the burnt offering and fat on the altar. When all the people saw this, they shouted with joy and then bowed to the ground to show their respect.

We really need God.

When the people of God gather and worship, God will show up.

We really need to gather and worship.

When God shows up, He shows up in Power and Authority.

We really need God to show up that way.

When God shows up that way, the people are expected to "shout with joy" and "bow down to the ground".

We really need to respond the right way.

Is this how we react when God shows up?

If you are not in a place where God shows up (and you KNOW it), then find a place that He does (and you will).  Once you get to that place, be sure your response to His Presence is appropriate.

We really need to remember this scripture, because....

.....we really need God.

We must not quit meeting together, as some are doing. No, we need to keep on encouraging each other. This becomes more and more important as you see the Day getting closer.

Serious Stuff

"This law will always continue for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month, you must not eat food. You must not do any work. None of the travelers or foreigners living in your land can do any work either. Because on this day, the priest will do this to make you pure and wash away your sins. Then you will be clean to the LORD."

Leviticus 16:29-30 ERV

How seriously do you take sin?

Do yourself a favor and read all of this chapter in Leviticus.  God takes sin very seriously.  Throughout the year, the Israelites sacrificed animals for their sins and on the Day of Atonement, the sanctuary was purged.  God gives specific instructions for this Day that the chief priest is to perform in order to cleanse the nation and the sanctuary.

We don't need to sacrifice animals.  The sanctuary does not require purging any longer.  Jesus Christ paid for our sins once and for all through His own blood.  He was our scapegoat for all eternity.  He was the perfect sacrifice for all of us.

Perhaps the Day of Atonement served another purpose also: reminding God's people of the seriousness of sin.

Take some time today and recognize God's view of sin and thank Him for the Perfect Sacrifice.

Then, remember, sin is serious stuff.

A New Season

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV

Today, I would like to talk about seasons.  Just because you are not doing what you were doing before does not mean you are out of the Will of God, or that you were out of the Will of God when you were doing what you were doing before.  OK, but you may have been, or you may be now.  I'm just saying that the change from one task to another; one purpose to another; one vision to another, is not necessarily the measuring stick of where you stand in His Will.

You may have noticed a change to the title of the blog and the banner graphics above.  We are entering the next season for our own lives.  Most of you kept up to date with us here as we were in Haiti.  There was plenty to write about while serving in the mission field.  Since we've been back, there hasn't been much to write about - not that anyone would want to read, really.  So, I have mostly just kept the blog filled with worship videos and tidbits here and there.

Well, this new season that we are entering brings a new season to this site.  We will be sharing the Word here more.  Less of us, more of Him.  Not that there was anything wrong with the way it was before, right?  Just a different season, remember?

We are making some great strides here by the way.  There was a lot of catch up to play when we got back as far as our businesses.  We are almost there.  And we are moving forward in missions.  You didn't think we were done, did you?

So, if you have been coming here regularly, keep coming - and tell a friend.  If you are new here, the posts before this one will have a little different taste than the ones that come after it - that's all.

We wish you the best in whatever season He has you in.

As we, in the States, and Americans abroad, celebrate our independence as a nation, let us remember that there are people who are not yet free in other lands.

There are still those in slavery and bondage to governments and leaders who hold oppressive power over their people.

Pray for their liberty as you are thankful for your own.

Happy Independence Day!
